Warm-Up Exercises Before Playing Golf

Prior to heading out to the golf course, it is always best to do warm-up exercises and stretches. This way, you can get increased flexibility as well as get more length out of your swings. So, before you tee off, take an extra 10- to 15-minute break to do the exercises below.

Start by taking your 4-iron and laying it on top of your shoulders with your both of your hands positioned on top of it. Then, turn as far as you can to the left, as if you were completing your follow-through. Hold this particular stretch position for about three seconds. Next, turn to the right as far as you can, as if you were doing a backswing and hold that again for three seconds. You can do this for about 10 times for each side.

After stretching, you can then do the shoulder shrug. This type of exercise will help you get your shoulders prepared for the full swing that you will take from the tee or the fairway. To do this, hold your arms at your sides and slowly shrug your shoulders up to the level of your ears. Proceed to rolling them forward and then back to the starting position. You will need to perform this series of movements for about 10 to 15 times before starting the round.

Finally, go to the locker a little early so you can do some stomach crunches. Place your hands behind your head and raising it about twelve inches before returning to the starting position. Make about 20 repetitions per set.
