Making a Golf Mat-A DIY Project

Golf mats are a great tool for golfers who want to practice their shots without taking divots out of the lawn. They are easy to make, relatively inexpensive, and requires a few materials. Still, the best thing about this tool is that is it portable, making it easy for you to store the training gear in your car trunk and take it with you wherever you go. Now, if you are thinking of making this home improvement project on your own, consider the following tips.

Begin by cutting a rectangular piece of rubber foam that measures at least three feet by five feet. This will serve as the base of your mat, so look for a kind that is dense and heavy enough to withstand the impact of your swings. You may also use a silicone gel base, but this is a more expensive alternative.

Next, lay your artificial turf carpet upside down and use the foam rubber pad. This will guide you in cutting your artificial turf carpet to the identical dimensions. Both of these items can be readily found at your local home improvement store.

After cutting your pattern, apply spray or liquid adhesive to a small scrap piece of the foam. Ensure that the glue does not melt before you can attach the mat. Place the artificial turf carpet firmly against the foam rubber mat and let it stand to dry.

Using a driver, mark where the golf tee ought to be placed. If you plan on inserting a plastic tee holder for the mat, drill a hole that is approximately the size of the holder through the artificial turf only. Then glue the plastic tee holder into that very opening.
