Growing Golf Grass for a Mini Court

If you plan on having a putting green in your garden, then it is best that you prepare the area ahead of time. Keep in mind that the type of plant used requires constant trimming and maintenance. The landscaping procedure itself will be a lot different than the typical lawn. This way, you would have an authentic looking mini-course. In order to accomplish this, follow these steps:

1. Remove or kill any existing vegetation with herbicide. Have your soil treated with this chemical at least one month before you start planting so that you can avoid any harmful effects. Also make sure to get rid of remaining weeds and stones by using a rake.

2. Till your garden to a depth of four to six inches. Do this repeatedly until you no longer notice any signs of clump and dirt and the ground has a fine and clod-free consistency.

3. For every 1,000 sq. feet of lawn, spread about two pounds of grass seed evenly. Select a type that can adapt well to your environment. For instance, the Bermuda, Buffalo and Bahia work well in warm climates. On the other hand, the bent, bluegrass and ryegrass are suitable for cooler weather.

4. Blend the seed into the soil gently with the use of a rake. Don’t mind if there are those that remain on the top, what is important is most of them are properly covered. Try not to go to deep otherwise they won’t germinate. The advised depth would be 1/2 inch. Afterwards, water the lawn until most of the ground is moist.

5. Moisten your garden daily, ideally every morning. Spread about 1/4 inch of water during cool weather, and 1/2 inch during summer and spring. Make sure to fertilise at least every once a year (twice a year for herbicide). To have truly authentic putting green grass. Trim daily with a reel-type mower that is configured to the lowest setting.

Once this is done, you can enjoy the sport to your pleasure. Just like with any part of your house, this area needs constant maintenance. Make sure that all the plants are well nourished and remain pest free.
